PielFrama mobile phone cases and mousepad |
It's always a pleasure to review leather products from PielFrama. The products themselves are exquisitely crafted from fine leather but also a lot of thought has gone into the packaging and presentation. They are perfectly suited to give to someone special and, yes, sometimes that special person has to be you, I guess... Today we look at a couple of mobile phone cases and a leather mousepad.

PielFrama has made specific cases for most PocketPCs to ensure a perfect fit. With mobile phones it is a different matter as there are so many of them in all shapes and sizes. Generic cases are probably the best way to go under the motto: “one size fits all”. Well, that's not quite true and that’s why PielFrama has a range of generic cases in different sizes. I tried out the Uniestilo and the UniFrama for my Nokia phones. When you order them you can stipulate the length of the case, not the width. The Nokia 7210 is 105 millimetres long and my older Nokia is 125 millimetres. The UniFrama has a very strong leather belt clip which is great as there is quite a bit of vertical pressure on any case when you sit down in a car or on a low couch. The Uniestilo has a flap that goes around the belt and is “velcroed” into place. That’s quite a good system too but a couple of extra buttons to prevent too much flap when you get the phone out would be an improvement. |

Both cases are too wide for the Nokias. Leather will also “give” a little over time with constant use so I suggested to PielFrama to create a less wide version of these cases as well. It can be as simple as taking off a bit of the leather side panels... Knowing how responsive the company is in accommodating customer wishes and suggestions, I’m sure we’ll see some further product improvements here. At the same time they may want to also have the packaging instructions and descriptions in English for their growing international clientele. The generic packaging has a picture of belt clip that can be rotated 360°. Neither one of the cases has this feature and the drawing of this clip and its description in Spanish may puzzle some customers.

The two functions that any case has to perform well, namely protecting the contents and enhancing the looks, the PielFrama cases do very well. It’s easy to get to the phone and it will certainly outlast any mobile phone!

| A Leather Mousepad | |
The last item reviewed is a new product in the PielFrama range: a leather mousepad. I’m not overly in favour of mousepads as they can restrict your mouse movements somewhat but this one has a wrist pad to give support to the hand. This helps in preventing RSI (Repetitive Strain Injuries) or the dreaded “mouse arm”. Once you have a case of RSI this wrist support can relieve the symptoms a bit. In my situation, years of chasing mice around has given me a good dose of RSI to the point where I often switch hands so I found the PielFrama mousepad quite helpful here. I would even prefer an even more elevated wrist pad for my condition. PielFrama is already looking into adding extra padding… The main point here is that everyone who uses a mouse for long periods should have one of these simple but effective devices on their desk. It’s comfortable, prevents problems down the road and adds a nice touch to any desk!
