3D CEdiCE by RU0 Games

RU0 Games is also the maker behind the breakout type game Walls & Balls.  Based on what I’ve seen, they seem to make games that provide tons of levels with many features.  Now they have released their second game called 3D CEdiCE.

The objective of the game is to basically match the dice together to clear all the dice from the board.  Although the concept is fairly simple, RU0 Games boasts that the game offers 150 levels (more levels to be added along the way), adjustable difficulty, and a unique game engine to make the game look good.

Installation
Installation of the game was slightly different than the usual method.  Instead of just double-clicking an executable file, they use a CAB file.  The way this works is that you just put the CAB file on your Pocket PC.  Then, using File Explorer, you just find and tap the file.  The game will then install itself onto your Pocket PC.  The game takes up approximately 450KB of space on your PDA, therefore, it shouldn’t be much of a problem installing it.

Playing the Game

As mentioned before, the way you play the game is to clear the board by matching the dice.  There are two game modes: a horizontal or a vertical board.  On a vertical board, gravity is in effect.  That means that if you have a dice high on a single ledge, it will fall down onto the ground if you move it off the block ledge.  The dice on the ground can of course only move left or right depending if there are any obstructions in the way.

The horizontal board is played differently.  You start with a highlighted dice.  Your job is to move dice with your own dice to match them up.  There’s a catch: your dice cannot match up with the same kind of dice; otherwise you lose.

When making your moves, I recommend using the directional arrows shown on the screen rather than using your stylus to move the dice.  The screen arrows allow you to make more precise movements with less chance for mistakes.

If you are still unsure about how to play the game, just check out the tutorial at the help option at the main menu screen.  This is an animated walkthrough tutorial that tells you how to play the game and what each button is on the interface.

Interface/Graphics/Sound

This is the part where the game shines.  3D CEdiCE has nice graphics and uses an engine with an interface which is easy to use and very responsive.  The loading times are minimal since the levels pop up immediately.  The main menu presents all the options.  If necessary, you can change certain options such as the difficulty level, sound, controls, etc.

When playing the game, I really like the interface idea where you just press the ‘X’ at the top right corner and a small menu will pop up from the bottom.  The menu allows you to quickly restart the level, quit the game, or go to the main menu.  I would like to see this kind of menu in other games.

Conclusion

I would recommend this game to those that truly like puzzle-type games and want to have a real challenge.  Each level in the game increases in difficulty and there will be many times where you will have to redo a level.  If you are a person that likes to think when playing, you will enjoy this game; otherwise you might get frustrated and give up easily.  At the price of $6.99 (as seen on PocketGear.com), this is a very reasonable price for those looking for a challenging puzzle game and are willing to endure the mind boggling puzzles and frustration you will receive from this game.
